12th March 18

On Thursday 1st March, a team of 9 students travelled down to the Laude Lady Elizabeth School near Javea, Alicante with Mrs Cross to represent our school in a debating competition against students from all the ISP schools around the world. Our team was;  Leo Rus, Antonio Tintoré, Silvia Bono, Marina Vaffier, Rosa Barrios, Pablo Ordoñez Year 11, Nuria Moreno Year 10 and Anton Sanz Year 9.

We were up against students from Mexico, USA, Dubai and United Arab Emirates, as well as all of the ISP Schools in Spain. In total there were 90 students at the 3 day competion which was intense but great fun.

The event started on Thursday evening with an opening ceremony and then the BSV team went out for dinner together. Friday and Saturday were full days of debating in the different working groups which had been chosen. Each of our students represented a country and had to defend their country’s position on different issues. As this was a formal event, all particiànts had to wear suits or formal wear during all of the debates. It was not all hard work however, we also went to a disco at one of Calpe’s top hotels on Friday evening.

On Saturday afternoon the event closed with a paella lunch and the formal closing ceremony. This was an extremely enjoyable event which challenged our team in a positive and constructive way. It was an amazing experience to meet other students from around the world and discuss issues  such as gender equality, immigration, political corruption, which are important on a global scale.

I think we are all looking forward to attending the event again next year, especially if it is hosted in Dubai or the United States!
