As we follow the British National Curriculum, we prepare our students to sit SATs, IGCSEs and A-Levels examinations, which are equivalent to the Spanish ESO and Bachillerato. Our students are granted university access without having to take the Selectividad exam and they also obtain Spanish and British qualifications that allow them to apply to any European university.
INFANTS AND PRIMARY (SUMMATIVE AND FORMATIVE ASSESMENTS)
Summative Assessment will be assessing the skills children have been practising over the term and provide us with a snapshot of where the pupil is at this point in comparison to the start of the year.
We also use formative assessment throughout the year, allowing pupils to take greater ownership of their learning. As the teachers clarify learning targets and share feedback, the pupils can identify gaps in their own learning and formative assessment focuses on how to close those gaps.
During the year as we work with each child, we gain greater and more solid understandings of their abilities, their strengths and weaknesses. The British curriculum is based on a spiral model which constantly builds and develops children`s knowledge, skills and understanding. However assessment, no matter how good, is not the child. It should neither constrain our expectations nor limit our endeavours. It is there to allow us as teachers to focus on what children need to learn next.
PRIMARY ASSESSMENT TIMETABLE
IGCSEs are the international equivalent to the Spanish Secondary Education Diploma. This certificate is given to our students at the end of Year 11. Together with Spanish, Valenciano and Social Studies, our students obtain double qualification in Spanish and English.
A-Levels are the equivalent to the Spanish Bachillerato. It is a 2-year course. The first year, our students sit the A/S which is a qualification in itself. The second year, students sit the A2 and together with the A/S and our students obtain their qualification.
